It’s Superbowl Sunday!
In honor of the game I wanted to talk about what makes an athlete. According to the Dictionary an athlete is:
"a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physical agility, stamina, or strength; a participant in a sport, exercise, or game requiring physical skill."
Robin Quivers, from Howard Stern added to that definition in an article in The Huffington post -
"It occurs to me that being an athlete is a state of mind. It's setting a goal and measuring your performance against it. It means making the outcome and how you got there matter. It's about pushing the edges of the envelope.
We all have the ability to compete. Whether it’s with ourselves, with other people or up against great challenge. What truly makes an athlete is not ability, but soul!
Here are some inspiring quotes from some of the top athletes in history:
“Love never fails. Character never quits. And with patience and persistence, dreams do come true.” Pete Maravich, basketball
“Each of us has a fire in our hearts for something. It’s our goal in life to find it and keep it lit.” Mary Lou Retton, gymnastics
“Goals determine what you’re going to be.” Julius Erving, basketball
“When the game is over I just want to look at myself in the mirror, win or lose, and know I gave it everything I had.” Joe Montana, football
“I may win and I may lose, but I will never be defeated.” Emmitt Smith, football
“Winning isn’t getting ahead of others, it is getting ahead of yourself.” Roger Staubach, football
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Wayne Gretzky, hockey
“Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.” Lance Armstrong cyclist
”Success comes in a lot of ways, but it doesn’t come with money and it doesn’t come with fame. It comes from having a meaning in your life, doing what you love and being passionate about what you do. That’s having a life of success. When you have the ability to do what you love, love what you do and have the ability to impact people. … That’s having a life of success. That’s what having a life of meaning is.” – Tim Tebow
May the fire of your inner athlete be sparked today!!! Know that you can achieve whatever goal you set for yourself... You can conquer any obstacle!!
It’s all a state of mind!!
"ALL IN"
With all my Love, Meredith
